Romania's Defense Ministry says a soldier was killed and four others wounded in Afghanistan when their vehicle drove over an explosive device, ap reported. The ministry says the soldiers were on patrol Sunday on the highway between Kabul and Qalat, a town near Kandahar in southern Afghanistan. The dead soldier was identified as 31-year-old Sgt. Maj. Dragos Traian Alexandrescu. The four wounded soldiers are being treated in hospital. There are 783 Romanian troops deployed in Afghanistan. Seven Romanian soldiers have died and 27 have been wounded since the country first sent troops in 2002.
