Two more U.S. military transport airplanes flew to Georgia on Friday carrying relief supplies on the third day of a humanitarian airlift, the Pentagon said. Spokesman Bryan Whitman said the military situation in Georgia appeared unchanged from Thursday. “The cease-fire appears to be holding, but there are Russian troops that need to withdraw,” he told reporters. The arrival of two U.S. Air Force C-130s in Tbilisi raised to about 82 tons the amount of supplies delivered over the past two days, Whitman said, adding that two more flights are scheduled for Saturday and that the pace of operations will hold steady “as we assess what the needs might be.”
