Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), pointed out that the serious challenges threatening harm to the Muslim world's unity and safety are further complicated by a certain religious zealotry. He stressed that addressing such challenges comes through sustaining contact, knowing one another, engaging in peaceful dialogue and mutual trust, abiding by Allah's covenant, adhering to the basic principles of Islam, and promoting the culture of rapprochement and understanding. In his address at the opening session of the Second Meeting of the Supreme Consultative Council for Bringing Muslim Madhahibs Closer together held today in Rabat, Dr. Altwaijri said, "I am firmly convinced that there is no other way of dealing with such challenges toward unifying the Ummah except through submitting to Allah's commandments and the Holy Prophet's immaculate Sunnah. The Council -operating under the Strategy for Bringing Muslim Madhahibs Closer together adopted by the 10th Islamic Summit Conference held in Malaysia in 2003- held its first meeting in Rabat in May 2007.
