Dr. Mansour Almazroui, a member of the academic staff of the Faculty of Meteorology, Environment, and Arid Land Agriculture of Jeddah-based King Abdulaziz University (KAU), has been awarded a research and visiting scientist fellowship at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (UEA), England, for his scientific achievement during his Ph.D. study period. This award is an unprecedented achievement for KAU given the international reputation of CRU, one of the world's leading scientific institutions in climate change research. CRU has made important contributions to the work done by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. For Dr. Almazroui, CRU membership opens the way for scientific cooperation with the Unit in climate change research, allowing him to keep abreast of the latest in research and to benefit from the large database of the Unit through the UEA website. Prof. Abdullah Omar Bafeel, KAU vice-president of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said the membership offers KAU the means of becoming a national and regional leader in climate change research through cooperation with international universities and research centers around the world.
