A police helicopter with three people inside was shot down Friday by robbers in Soweto township outside Johannesburg during a pursuit, police told the local SAPA news agency, according to DPA. The helicopter was helping the police dog unit pursue the robbers at the time, police spokesman Captain Dennis Adriao told SAPA. It was unclear with what the thieves shot at the helicopter or how many they were. The helicopter hit power lines before crashing, the emergency services were quoted as saying. All three victims of the attack were in critical condition in hospital, according to the report.
