Kamchatsky, June 21, SPA -- The fire that broke out aboard the Russian transport refrigerator Akademik Khokhlov in the Sea of Japan has been extinguished. None of the 25 crewmembers and four passengers was hurt, an officer on duty at the Vladivostok sea rescue coordination centre told Itar-Tass on Saturday. The vessel reserve mechanisms have been started, but the main engine is disconnected from electricity and does not work. The refrigerator is drifting and waiting for the rescue tugboat Chuyev that is to arrive at the site this Saturday at 15:00 Vladivostok time (10:00 Moscow time). The tugboat will tow the Akademik Khokhlov to the South Korean port of Pusan. The fire broke out in the engine room of the vessel on the night to Friday, June 20. The room was doused with fire extinguishing foam and sealed up. The Akademik Khokhlov was on the way to Pusan. It is from the port of Vladivostok and belongs to the Rimsko company. The refrigerator was built in Poland more than 30 years ago. The vessel of about 10,000 tonnes displacement is 139 meters long.
