A German frigate patrolling the Persian Gulf as part of the international effort in the war on terrorism rescued six members of a tugboat crew suffering engine problems, the U.S. military said Monday. The FGS Karlsruhe responded to a distress call from the Motor Vessel Sarah Thursday and determined the boat could not be repaired at sea. The six crew members were then taken to the Karlsruhe by helicopter and the Sarah was towed to Omani waters, U.S. Central Command said. The Karlsruhe was in the Persian Gulf participating in "Enduring Freedom", the U.S.-led military operation to combat terrorism that was launched after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. --SP 2340 Local Time 2040 GMT
