King Abdul Aziz University's Faculty of Earth Sciences has received recognition from British Geological Survey (BGS) to be the first in the Arab World and outside the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth states. BGS is the oldest geological society in the world. The KAU faculty is a premier institution in the Arab World that teaches and trains students in all disciplines of earth sciences. It teaches different geology spheres as economic, engineering, environmental, hydrogeology, structural and petrology. The Faculty of Earth Sciences possesses distinguished field and laboratory and research potentials. It confers academic degrees including Master's degrees and Doctorates. It is the first university faculty in Saudi Arabia to grant scientific doctoral degrees to postgraduate students. Its research activities are numerous and focus on various earth sciences disciplines. Most of its research works and projects are supported by King Abdullah City for Science and Technology (KASST).
