Russian special forces killed five people, including one woman, in an operation against insurgents in the southern region of Ingushetia on Wednesday, a spokesman at the Ingush interior ministry said. Special forces surrounded a house in the village of Karabulak, about 10 kilometres (6 miles) north east of the main city of Nazran, and attacked when the rebels refused to surrender, the spokesman was quoted as saying by Reuters. Russian forces have been combating a growing insurgency in Ingushetia.
