The Muslim World League (MWL) today announced the postponement to 4-6 June 2008 of the opening of the International Islamic Conference for Dialogue to be held in Makkah under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turky, Secretary General of MWL pointed out that the MWL has received correspondence from scholars, Muftis and Heads of Islamic centers in countries having Muslim minorities and those living in remote countries expressing their desire for contribution to take part in the conference, citing its great importance as the conference's topic is related to their projects, activities and programs. Given the difficulties they face in travel reservation, the MWL has decided to postpone the conference to enable them to attend, Al-Turky explained. He added that the Islamic nation's scholars and thinkers emphasized the importance of dialogue with non- Muslims and considered it an important means of responding to those continuing to call for conflict of civilizations adopted by some thinkers driven by factors of hatred, pessimism, selfishness and arrogance. Al-Turky said this underscores the importance of the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the importance of dialogue and his call for understanding which emanates from common factors with other societies and for establishing the ideal relations in the world on the bases of mutual respect in the current era characterized by conflicts and crises.
