At least 16 people were killed and more than 40 were wounded in a bomb explosion inside a bus on the outskirts of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Friday evening, a police spokesman said, according to dpa. The bomb blast took place in Piliyandala, 12 kilometres south of Colombo, near the main bus station, Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police NK Illangakoon said. The bus was leaving the station with more than 50 passengers when the bomb went off. Some of the wounded included bystanders. More than 300 commuters were at the bus station at the time of the explosion. Almost all of the passengers killed were from the majority Sinhala community.
