The Food and Agriculture Organization FAO and the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA have promised to help Yemen combat the disease of the Old World Screwworm fly (OWS) which has recently broken out in some Yemen's provinces, SABA quoted the state-run 26sep.net as saying. The announcement came during the last visit of the minister of Agriculture and Irrigation to Vienna where he participated in a FAO international conference, the director general of the animal department at the Agriculture and Irrigation ministry Ghalib al-Eryani said. The two organizations will provide Yemen with necessary requirements such as drugs as well as training Yemeni cadres and holding a regional workshop on combating the disease, he added. He said the two organizations will also support Yemen to conduct researches that will help get rid of the disease. Al-Eryani said Yemen could achieve more success in treating many human and livestock cases affected by the disease in despite of the financial difficulties, expecting the disease will sluggish during summer since the hot environment affects it.
