Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) suffered its second legal setback in under a week Friday when the High Court rejected its application to halt the recount of results from last month's disputed elections, according to dpa. High Court Justice Antonia Guvava said the application lacked merit. The state-controlled Zimbabwe Electoral Commission announced a partial recount of results from the March 29 presidential and parliamentary elections for Saturday - even though it has not yet released the presidential results. The recount relates to 23 out of 210 constituencies, in which the opposition Movement for Democratic Change beat President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF for the most part. The MDC defeated Zanu-PF in voting to the lower house of parliament (House of Assembly) 109 seats to Zanu-PF's 97. The party also claims its leader Morgan Tsvangirai defeated Mugabe in the presidential ballot. If the parliamentary result is overturned in just nine constituencies Zanu-PF will have back its majority.
