Border guard patrols in Najran foiled yesterday smuggling of hashish after smugglers fired on patrol members, who in turn responded by firing before the smugglers escaped southwards, leaving behind them 140 kilograms of hashish and some weapons. The commander of the border guard of Najran region Major General Saad bin Mohammed Moetiq Al-Shahrani said that the patrols working at the site called Alrafadah monitored people on foot across rugged mountain areas. The patrols planned to arrest them, but when the smugglers felt danger, they opened fire heavily on patrols who exchanged fire with them. Al-Shahrani noted that the patrols found 140 kilograms of hashish and some automatic weapons and ammunition. He thanked Governor of Najran region for his support for border guard and permanent follow-up to preserve the citizens from the scourge of drugs.
