A small plane crashed near a busy avenue in one of Rio de Janeiro's most upscale neighborhoods at lunch hour Sunday, killing all four people aboard, authorities said, according to AP. The plane, a single-engine Cirrus SR22 owned by the local logistics company Cisa Trading, went down on land owned by a car dealership about a block from the Avenida das Americas, a main avenue in the posh Barra da Tijuca district, said Sandra Fontella, a spokeswoman with Brazil's civil aviation authority. Authorities said no one on the ground was injured. The four-seat plane had just taken off from the nearby Jacarepagua airport and was headed to the southern city of Florianopolis in Santa Catarina state, Fontella said. The passengers were not immediately identified. Witnesses said the plane exploded upon impact, the GloboNews TV reported. The region where the accident happened is home to some of the city's most luxurious condominiums.
