SPA At least forty persons were killed when a suicide bomber struck a gathering of tribal elders (Jirga) in Pakistan s tribal areas Sunday, police said. More than thirty-five persons were wounded in the attack in village Zarghon of Darra Adamkhel where notables from five tribal clans had gathered. The suicide bomber attacked when the assembly had ended. The injured persons were removed to hospitals in Peshawar and Kohat. A candidate, Noor Zaman Afridi, who had contested the Feb 18 parliamentary elections and lost, was also killed in the attack. The father of Senator Razzaq was wounded. The tribal elders had decided in their meeting to torch the houses of and impose fine on the tribesmen, who will shelter to foreign militants and extremists. Police said law enforcement agencies have found a leg and head of the suicide bomber.
