A lieutenant general and seven others were killed in a suicide attack in the busiest area of garrison city of Rawalpindi, neighbouring Islamabad, Monday, police said. The suicide bomber was also killed when he struck his explosive laden vehicle with the car in which Surgeon General of Pakistan Army Lt-Gen Mushtaq Baig was traveling near the offices of the National Database and Registration Authority. His driver and guard also died in the explosion. At least 30 persons were injured in the blast. Half a dozen vehicles were also damaged. The relief operation was immediately launched after the explosion. The injured were being transferred to hospitals of Rawalpindi.
