Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz, the Vice-Governor of Riyadh region, chaired here last night the meeting of the traffic safety committee. The participants of the meeting reviewed progress of work during the fourth year of the five-year executive plan of the traffic safety in Riyadh. They noticed that in the light of implementing the executive plan mortality caused by traffic accidents dropped from 430 in 1425 to 357 in 1428, while the injuries dropped from 1555 to 1178 in the same period. Member of the Higher Commission for the Development of Riyadh City Eng. Abdel-Latif al Alshaikh said the participants of the meeting were briefed on the plan of implementing the traffic regulations which included combating traffic violations that lead to serious and dangerous accidents. They were also briefed on the draft of the comprehensive management of the traffic accidents in Riyadh, which is one of the joint projects between the Higher Commission for the Development of Riyadh City and the traffic administration in Riyadh. The draft aims at the improvement of the performance of the operation theatre at the traffic administration in Riyadh through utilizing the most sophisticated technology in the management of the operation theatres. Meanwhile, the meeting was also briefed on a report on the cost of the traffic accidents which amounts to about sr 13 billion per year at the Kingdom's level, and sr 1.6 billion at the level of Riyadh City.
