As nine victims of an apartment fire in Ludwigshafen in Germany were buried at home in Turkey, police announced Monday that sniffer dogs had not found any sign of inflammable chemicals in the ruined building. Many Turks suspect the February fire may have been a racist arson attack, citing claims by two girl survivors that they saw a stranger light something indoors beforehand. Police in the city, who have a team of 80 working on the case, helped by four police liaison officers from Turkey, said they would say no more about the fire inquiry till the end of the week. They offered no comment on news reports that inconsistencies were found in the claims of the two girls, 8 and 9.
