Vietnam has annually detected some 200,000 cases of cancer infection, with 150,000 fatalities, Xinhua quoted the Vietnam Cancer Association as saying today. The K Hospital in Hanoi capital alone, which specializes in cancer diagnosis and treatment, has annually treated 150,000 cancer patients. It has seen over 75,000 patients die from the disease in the past five years. Many of the patients are aged over 40. The most common cancers in Vietnam, with a population of 86 million, include lung cancer, gastric cancer, bronchial tube cancer, and liver cancer, the association said, noting that the country faces a severe shortage of specialized hospitals for cancer patients. The infection and fatality are attributed mainly to the polluted environment and the late diagnosis of the disease.
