An avalanche in the Italian Alps Sunday killed one person and injured six, rescuers said. Five people were missing, according to AP. The Brescia fire department, which sent rescuers to the site in Brescia province, said the avalanche struck at about 5 p.m. It said it did not immediately have any details on the dead, including the nationality or sex of the victim. The Italian news agency ANSA said the avalanche crashed down from Mount Maniva and buried people who were aboard motorized sleds. Rescue efforts were under way in early evening.
