Twenty-eight people were in hospital Sunday following a collision between two ferries travelling between Hong Kong and Macau in thick fog, according to dpa. The accident, involving two high-speed jetfoils travelling in opposite directions on the one-hour route, left 133 people with injuries, some serious. The collision came at the end of day of travel chaos as the thick fog which has plagued coastal and central areas of China for around five days spread down to Hong Kong and Macau. Visibility was as low as 100 metres in one area. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident which also severely disrupted the ferry service linking the former British colony of Hong Kong with the gambling mecca of Macau.
