A child died and sixteen people were injured, three of them seriously, after fire destroyed an apartment block in northern Switzerland, cantonal police said Tuesday, according to DPA. The fire broke out Monday night in the centre of Binningen near Basle, which is near the German border. The body of the child, who still has not been identified, was found in bed on the second floor by firemen. Many residents escaped by jumping from their second floor windows. Around 100 fireman, including crews from Germany, tackled the blaze.
