At least eight people have died in house fires in Poland over the weekend, according to Polish news agency PAP. Two charred bodies had been found in a burnt-out flat in an apartment block in Kalisz, western Poland, reports said, according to DPA. Three people died in a fire in a garden shed near Pruszkov, west of Warsaw. On Saturday, three people died in flames in the loft apartment of a four-level apartment building in Lodz, while two others suffered smoke poisoning. The Polish fire brigade believe the fires might have been caused by the use of additional heaters, which overloaded the electricity network. Night temperatures in Poland have been way below zero degrees Celsius for the past few days.
