Around 16 Egyptians lost their lives on Saturday when their minibus fell off a Nile river ferry in southern Egypt, local security sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. The minibus slid into the water after driving aboard the moving ferry, drowning all of its passengers and the driver. The accident happened as the ferry sailed from the east bank of the Nile to the west in Minya province, 240 kilometres south of Cairo. Rescue teams recovered 11 bodies while five remain missing. The Middle East News Agency reported that three people were wounded, but this has not been officially confirmed. Authorities began a probe into the incident.
