A boat carrying illegal migrants sank off Turkey's Aegean coast Monday, killing at least eight people, AP quoted authorities as saying. Eight migrants survived by swimming to shore. It was the second such incident off Turkey's Aegean coast in a week. On Dec. 10, a boat carrying around 85 migrants capsized in rough seas, killing at least 50 illegal immigrants trying to make their way to Greece. Monday's accident occurred off the coast of Bodrum when a 4-meter- (4-yard-) long boat carrying an estimated 16 people sank on its way to the nearby Greek island of Cos, a Bodrum Coast Guard official said. The boat probably sank because it was overloaded, the official said, although authorities were also investigating other possibilities. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to journalists.
