A boat carrying illegal migrants from Mauritania and Somalia to Greece capsized Tuesday off the coast of Turkey, AP quoted the Anatolia news agency as saying. One migrant was missing. Nineteen migrants and the Turkish captain managed to swam ashore, the agency reported. The Turkish Coast Guard was searching for the missing migrant in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Aliaga in western Turkey. It was not clear which Greek island the boat was heading for. Thousands of migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa pass through Turkish waters each year in an attempt to reach western Europe. The European Union, which Turkey wants to join, is pressing Turkey to crack down on illegal immigration.
