US President George W Bush on Thursday condemned the assassination of a Lebanese general and called on Syria to put an end to tactics aimed at intimidating the Lebanese people, according to DPA. The killing of Brigadier General Francois al-Hajj and his bodyguard by a bomb in Beirut Wednesday came two days after parliament postponed the presidential elections to December 17. Bush said the assassination demonstrates the need to move forward with an international tribunal set up the UN Security Council to prosecute individuals suspected of playing a role in the dozen assassination of Lebanese politicians and other figures opposed to Syrian influence in the country.
