Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister, confirmed that the GCC member countries don't possess any further information on Iran's nuclear program beyond which was released by either Iran itself or the IAEA, both saying that it is a peaceful program. In remarks referring to that program at a joint press conference with Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) following the closing session of the GCC 28th summit here today, Sheikh Al Thani said "We hope it would be so. It is the right of Iran to possess a peaceful program. The GCC countries were and still are seeking to eliminate any misunderstanding on this program through diplomatic channels and direct dialogue". He described the proposals and ideas submitted at the summit by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding rapprochement between his country and GCC states as positive and good, adding that they will be under consideration by the GCC. He ruled out any tension between Iran and GCC members. Even if any thing happened, it would be solved through peaceful means, he said, citing the UAE islands issue with Iran. --More
