The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will take part in the International Symposium on “Stem Cells: Future Research, Ethics and Challenges” to be held in Cairo, between 3 and 5 November 2007, by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences, in cooperation with the WHO regional office in Cairo and the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). ISESCO will be represented in the Symposium by Dr Abdel Hamid Nada, expert at the Science Directorate, who will give a presentation on the efforts being exerted by the organization in such a vital field to preserve the ethical values and cultural and civilizational specificities and protect them against the different risks and aspects of misuse. The presentation will also touch upon the role of the Islamic Body on Ethics of Science and Technology (IBEST) and the Islamic Ethical Network on Science and Technology (IENST) in raising the general public's awareness about the major ethically-sensitive subjects and the two institutions' contribution to coordination, consultation and exchange of views on various ethical issues.
