An 80-year-old woman and her daughter were arrested in Austria on Friday, suspected of having murdered a 78-year-old neighbour and stolen her jewellery, according to dpa. Maria P, the victim, was discovered Tuesday in her apartment in Korneuburg near Vienna. She had suffered blows to the head with a blunt object and several broken bones, the Austrian press agency reported. Police on Friday arrested 80-year-old Bronislawa J and her 58- year-old daughter, both Polish citizens, on suspicion of murder. A DNA sample and a footprint from the victim's apartment provided decisive clues police said, leading to the 80-year-old suspect who had also borne a head wound for the past days. While she denied any involvement in the murder, her daughter said her mother came home on Tuesday with two plastic bags full of jewellery. The suspects claimed having buried the stolen jewellery.
