Chiefs from the Indian and Bangladeshi border forces reopened talks in Dhaka Thursday aimed at reaching an accord to curb cross-border shootings, officials said, according to dpa. The talks between visiting Director General of the Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) Ashish Kumar Mitra and his Bangladeshi counterpart Shakeel Ahmad have focused on recent tensions along the porous border. Bangladesh and India accuse each other of triggering conflicts along their shared 4,000-kilometre land boundary. Tensions have been mounting between the two countries as the death toll from frontier shootouts this month rose to a dozen. Diplomatic sources have said the talks spread over the week will also focus on the issues of border infiltration, smuggling of drugs, human trafficking and the sheltering of alleged terrorists and extremists on both sides.
