A car bomb went off in Baghdad early Sunday near the governor's building killing two civilians, news reports said, shortly after gunmen opened fire on the governor of Baghdad in a separate incident, reported dpa. Five were wounded when an explosives-laden vehicle, parked on a road in the Salihiya neighbourhood, was detonated, a police source told Voices of Iraq news agency. Security forces quickly sealed off the blast site, including a bridge that links the area of Senk to Salihiya "in fear of other attacks," said the agency. Civilians were pushed back from the surrounding areas. In a separate act, the governor of Baghdad survived an attempt on his life earlier in the day when his convoy was attacked by gunmen. According to state-owned al-Iraqiya TV channel, Hussein al-Tahan was on his way back from a visit to Saydiya district, the scene of a recent demonstration, when he was targeted. Two of the governor's guards were injured in this incident. According to police sources, the area where the governor was shot at has been experiencing violent activities.
