Kremlin critic Garry Kasparov was Sunday voted by an overwhelming majority as candidate in next March's presidential election for opposition grouping the Federation of the Other Russia, according to dpa. The 44-year-old former world chess champion won 379 of 498 votes cast at the grouping's congress to select a candidate, Interfax news agency reported. He joins a number of candidates from different political backgrounds who are set to contest the presidency which will be vacated by incumbent Vladimir Putin, whom the constitution prohibits running for a third consecutive term.
