The death toll in an attack by suspected Kurdish rebels in southeastern Turkey increased to 13, and troops killed at least two guerrillas in a separate incident at the Iraqi border, officials and state-run media said, according to AP. The body of a 7-year-old boy was found near a minibus, which the suspected rebels attacked with machine-guns in Sirnak province Saturday evening, the official said on condition of anonymity because he had not received authorization to speak to the media. The boy was the son of another victim in the attack, the official said. The minibus was carrying pro-government village guards. The other victims were seven guards and five civilians, officials said. Two others were injured. Turkish troops killed at least two suspected Kurdish rebels in a separate fighting some 50 kilometers (30 miles) away from where the ambush took place, state-run media reported Sunday. Anatolia news agency reported that rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, attacked a military outpost at the Iraqi border overnight. At least two rebels were killed in the fighting, Anatolia said. Turkish troops killed more than 20 rebels in operations over the past 15 days in the area near the border, officials said. «They started targeting civilians as a result of our security forces' determined battle,» Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday. «They will definitely get a response.»
