The Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims (SPAPEV) is actively engaged in the reconstruction and rehabilitation activities in the earthquake devastated areas of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP and Azad Kashmir. SPAPEV Director Foreign Affairs Muhammad Abdullah Al-Madouj told reporters during his visit to SPAPEV's pre-fabricated houses project site at Balakot that in the phase of reconstruction, his organization has built more then 2,200 houses for displaced families of October 8, 2005 killer earthquake. The work on the remaining houses is in progress at a fast pace and these houses, would be completed very soon, he said. The SPAPEV signed a contract of $16.7 million to build 4000 houses for displaced families of Balakot. He said the SPAPEV is close to complete the project of 4000 pre-fabricated houses. He said most of the completed houses have already been handed over to displaced families. Giving details of the relief and rehabilitation work since the SPAPEV started its operations in quake-hit areas, Al-Madouj said that it has provided 200,000 blankets, 150,000 quilts, 12500 winterized tents, medicine, stoves, 100,000 food packets containing sugar, pulses, oil, rice, flour bags, etc. and thousands of polypropylene sheets for the victims. The SPAPEV has also delivered a huge quantity of relief aid worth millions of riyals to different organizations.
