Two foreign workers with the International Committee of the Red Cross have been abducted in central Afghanistan, officials said Thursday, according to dpa. Local officials in Maidan Wardak province west of Kabul said the two people were kidnapped Wednesday afternoon while travelling in a rural area. They were abducted by unidentified gunmen, provincial police chief Muhammad Ewaz Mazlmomyar said, adding that a search was under way to find them. "The only information we have is that the two foreign aid workers were kidnapped yesterday and we don't know what they were doing and why they came here," Mazlomyar said Thursday. The Red Cross did not have an immediate comment. Kidnappings of foreign nationals have increased in recent months in Afghanistan.
