UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Monday urged the military government in Myanmar to show restraint when dealing with the popular demonstrations that have gained strength in demanding democracy in the impoverished country , DPA reported. A UN spokesperson said Ban commended "the peaceful approach the demonstrators are using to press for their interests, and he calls upon the Myanmar authorities to continue to exercise restraint." "The secretary general hopes that the government will seize this opportunity to engage without delay in dialogue with all the relevant parties to the national reconciliation process on the issues of concern to the people of Myanmar," Michelle Montas said. Ban has asked his special envoy for Myanmar, Ibrahim Gambari, to visit that country next month to engage the military regime into including political opposition parties into national reconciliation talks and to restore democracy and full respect of human rights.
