The UN is expected to pledge its support for the efforts for the political recovery and rebuilding of Iraq at a conference of foreign ministers in New York, reports said Saturday, according to DPA. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will co-chair Saturday's ministerial session with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the host and initiator of the meeting. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will attend the conference along with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner. Representatives from 20 nations will participate in the conference, including Russia, Iran, Turkey, Kuwait, Jordan and Syria. The conference should signal to Iraq that the whole world is willing to help the country, UN spokeswoman Marie Okabe said. The meeting is expected to lay the foundation for measures for the rebuilding of Iraq. The UN Security Council committed to a strengthened presence in Iraq six weeks ago.
