At least one French soldier was killed and six Afghan civilians were injured Friday in a suicide bombing on NATO-led troops in Kabul, police said, according to dpa. The blast also damaged a passenger bus, said Ali Shah Paktiawal, chief investigator for the Kabul police. The NATO-commanded International Security Assistance Force confirmed a car laden with explosives had targeted its troops. It did not immediately release any other information. Taliban rebels accepted responsibility of the suicide attack, saying in a statement posted on their website that "four French soldier were killed in the attack while six others were injured." The rebel's statement identified Assadullah Lugari for having carried out the suicide attack. In a press statement, French President Nicolas Sarkozy called the attack "cowardly and heinous," and sent his condolences to the soldier's family and the Afghan government and people.
