The remains of a man believed to be the pilot of a light aircraft which crash-landed Saturday on the Vistula river in Warsaw were found Tuesday on the river's east bank in a northern district of the Polish capital, DPA quoted Warsaw metropolitan police as confirming. Witnesses said the pilot managed to exit the plane after it crash- landed on the Vistula river and fought a strong current in a failed attempt to swim to the river-bank. Despite a rapid rescue effort, the man disappeared before emergency crews could reach him. Heavy rains in southern Poland have swollen the Vistula upstream, notably in Warsaw, where it separates the city's eastern and western districts. Police were expected to confirm the man's identity later Tuesday.
