Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Yunis reiterated the positive feasibility of technical studies for electricity linkage project between Saudi Arabia and Egypt for the benefit of the two countries as they are the largest networks of electricity in the region in terms of capacity and expansion. The Egyptian minister said in a statement today that the report submitted by the Chairman of Egyptian Electricity Holding Company following his participation in a committee of Electricity experts held in Saudi Arabia reiterated the importance of the implementation of the project and that there is considerable interest from both countries to speed implementation of such giant project. The Egyptian Minister of Electricity said that the importance of the project comes from the fact that electricity networks in Egypt and Saudi Arabia represent more than 85% of the electricity capacity in the Arab nations and serve all Arab networks. He added that he will meet with Saudi Minister of Electricity during his visit to Egypt in the coming period to discuss the final reports of this project , the agreement on implementation steps and research funding sources for rapid implementation from Arab sources especially the Kuwaiti Development Fund , the Arab Fund and international financing bodies. The Minister stressed that the link is the nucleus of comprehensive Arab electricity linkage where the first phase is being implemented by linking the Gulf Cooperation Council States and neighboring countries.
