A bus carrying 30 construction workers in northwest China slammed into a dirt mound on the roadside, killing seven people and injuring 23 others, state media said Sunday. Victims of Saturday's crash in Shaanxi province's Heyang county were laborers from Xi'an city who had been working on a new rail line, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Thirty people were on the bus when its brakes failed, causing it to veer off a country road and cross a state highway before crashing into the dirt mound, Xinhua said. The cause of the accident was under investigation, it said. Four people were declared dead at the scene and three died later Saturday at a local hospital, Xinhua said. The report did not give the condition of the injured.
