Two bus accidents in China left 35 people dead on Saturday, the official Xinhua news agency reported. A bus overturned and crashed into a river bank between Xi'an and Zhouzhi in the northwestern province of Shaanxi. Twenty-six passengers died and 46 were injured, 13 of them seriously, the report said. The bus driver claimed a stone fell onto the windscreen from a mountain slope, and he couldn't break on the icy road. The driver and owner were both arrested. The victims were mostly peasants from neighbouring Sichuan province who were on their way to Shanghai to find work. On the same day, nine people died in the southwestern province of Guizhou when a minibus came off the road in the Pingtang region and crashed into a valley. The driver also died in the accident, Xinhua reported, and four passengers were injured.
