U.S. Deputy Secretary John D. Negroponte will travel to Pakistan and Afghanistan on September 10 as part of his regular consultations with two of America s most important strategic partners in the war against terrorism, said a U.S. Embassy Islamabad statement. In Afghanistan Negroponte will meet with President Hamid Karzai, Afghan officials, and members of civil society to discuss cooperation in counter-terrorism and reconstruction progress and achievements since 2001. He will visit Pakistan to continue the U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Partnership dialogue, which includes cooperation on counter-terrorism, education, science and technology, and expansion of economic opportunities. Negroponte s schedule will include meetings with President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, and civil society representatives.
