On behalf of Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Region, Prince Juluwe bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Region, tonight opened a symposium titled "Saudi Arabia's efforts in the protection of maritime environment" to mark the celebrations of the International Maritime Day for 2007. Senior officials, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ohali, the Minister of Transport Dr. Jubara Eid Al-Suraysri, and Prince Juluwe bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Region, addressed the symposium respectively, highlighting the efforts being exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect sea environment. They expressed pleasure to share the world its concern over the challenges facing sea transportation including water pollution and navigation problems. Saudi Arabia's strategic location lays great burden on its authorities to remain committed to international maritime agreements and protocols, they said adding that the Kingdom also celebrates the event in its capacity as a constituent member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This event is to upgrade the awareness of the peoples of IMO member states of the importance and role of sea transportation in life and highlighting the efforts of IMO, they concluded.
