A Saudi official source denied allegations appearing in some Pakistani newspapers of September 1st, 2007 claiming that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia showed satisfaction and support for the return of Mr. Nawaz Sharif and his family to Pakistan. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the source said these reports have no truth at all. It further affirmed that the initiative of Saudi Arabia in receiving Mr. Nawaz Sharif after having been ousted in 1999 came as a humanitarian gesture which received a favorable response from the Pakistani Government and His Excellency President Pervez Musharraf. That response embodied the strong relations that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the brotherly peoples of the two countries. Concluding the statement, the source emphasized that, contrary to circulating news, wisdom demands that Mr. Nawaz Sharif commit himself to the promises he made; namely, not to return to Pakistan and to political activity.
