A three-day workshop, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultancy, was opened today at Crown Plaza Resort here under the auspices of Sheikh Mohammed bin Ali Al-Qatabi, the Omani Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar. The opening ceremony was attended by Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, the Minister of Commerce and Industry; Sheikh Salim bin Ufeet al Shanfari, the Head of Dhofar Municipality, advisers and representatives of public and private industrial institutions in the GCC states. Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Commerce and Industry and member of Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultancy, in a speech said that the workshop is part of the initiatives taken to raise awareness of the industrial complexes and how to promote them. The promotion of industrial complexes will contribute to achieving the national economic development plans in small and medium size enterprises, he was quoted as saying by the Oman News Agency. Loloah Abdullah Al-Musnad, Assistant Secretary-General for Industrial Investment Sector at the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultancy, said the success in today's market depends mainly on a number of factors including co-operation, co-ordination, ability to cope up in a positive manner with modern changes and apply modern concepts such as the industrial chains. Experts from United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) addressed the workshop on ways to develop industrial complexes, the current local status, the roles of the interest group and how to build confidence and programmes that meet the requirement of the local conditions. The workshop aims at promoting industrial complexes in the GCC states providing an overview of the trend, the tools required for development, besides increasing public awareness of the importance of such industrial complexes. The GCC is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
