on-Don, Russia, August 18, SPA -- Gunmen killed one officer when they fired on a police post in a restive southern region, and a bomb went off nearby when other officers came to investigate, AP quoted the regional Interior Ministry as saying Saturday. The overnight attack and blast took place on the outskirts of Tiyrniyauz, a town in the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in Russia's North Caucasus region that includes Chechnya. The republic's Interior Ministry said the shooting occurred at a post manned by two policemen near a bridge. When other police arrived to investigate, a homemade bomb exploded under the bridge, but no one was injured in the blast, the ministry said.
