The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has met President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan during his recent official visit to Uzbekistan. During the meeting, they discussed the challenges facing the Islamic world, including the fight against extremism and terrorism in addition to the need for spreading the values of Islamic tolerance and moderation. The Secretary General participated during his visit in the opening of the International Conference on the Contribution of Uzbekistan to the Development of Islamic Civilization, explaining that ISESCO's selection of Tashkent as the capital of the Islamic culture in 2007 represents an appreciation of Uzbekistan's position in the Islamic civilization.
